Corvallis Community Band

The Corvallis Community Band will present the Last concert in its 2010 Summer Concert Series in Central Park on Tuesday, August 31. Rehearsal is at 7 PM; the concert will begin at 8 PM. The theme this week is "CCBand Favorites" Our sponsor once again is The Alma and Mario Pastega Family Foundation. We'll play some traditional "last concert" pieces - like Instant Concert and Amparito Roca, Dick Dewey's Nocturne Improvisation, Corvallis March, and , I understand, there's a movement afoot to play Zacatecas, if there are enough parts. It will be VERY dark by the end of the concert--so be prepared for that--you might want to bring a flashlight to light your way across the park after the lights are turned off.
As is our tradition, this last concert will be preceded by our end-of-the-summer Community Band Potluck on Tuesday, August 31 at 6 PM Bring your family, friends, food, and table service. Drinks will be provided. If you don't know what to bring, follow this guideline(based on the first letter of your last name): A-H bring dessert and a main dish; I-P bring main dish and salad; Q-Z bring salad and bread. If you are not bringing anyone with you, just bring one thing.
A number of you have agreed to play on Thursday, September 2, 5:30 PM, at Starker Arts Park for the Volunteer Recognition Celebration. A sign-up sheet has been circulating for this performance, but we can always use a few more. We will play two 45-minute sets from the gig books for this event, and we can partake of the burritos and root beer floats that they are offering to the volunteers. They've asked that we bring our own table service, if we want to eat.
After our concert on August 31, we'll take a well-earned vacation (except for the Sept. 2 performance!). We'll begin fall rehearsals at Linus Pauling Middle School Band Room on Tuesday, October 5. We're hoping to schedule a fall performance or two, in addition to our traditional Holiday Concert in December and our formal winter concert in March..
